The Requirement

The brief was to develop a sustainable online community, which enhanced the activities of existing community and voluntary organisations and provided a forum in which to air issues and news and promote local projects and businesses. It was essential that the system offer facilities for these organisations to publish information themselves.

The Solution

Supportal has three channels, focusing on business, community interests and leisure. Content includes a news facility, business directory and local events list. There are facilities for local people to add news stories and other content. Importantly, local organisations can design and publish their own web page on Supportal.

The Outcome

Supportal has given the local communities and businesses in Wirral a highly cost effective internet presence. In June 2005 Supportal was shortlisted for best Community and Information website in the New Statesman New Media awards.
