NHS Direct
Project:
Touchscreen kiosk interface
Sector:
Public Sector
Target:
General public
The Requirement
NHS Direct is designed to give health advice to the general public without having to travel to a GP or hospital. A call centre and website were set up but in order to make the service as accessible as possible, additional means of accessing it were required. Touchscreen kiosks located in public places were designed to extend the reach of the service. However, traditional websites are not touch friendly, so Amatica was commissioned to re-purpose content from the NHS Direct website for use on the kiosks. Amatica also commissioned, installed and managed 183 kiosks. (See Amatica Kiosk for more details of our kiosk services and case studies).
The Solution
Kiosk content came from the NHS Direct website, but this was not touchscreen friendly. Amatica designed a touchscreen interface so that kiosk users could access the same information as web users, and an attract sequence that would entice the public into using the kiosk.
The Outcome
The kiosks extended NHS Direct's online services to members of the public who do not have access to the internet. The system could be accessed in a range of public places, such as supermarkets as well as more traditional healthcare environments including pharmacies and hospital A&E departments.
