Kleen and Green scoop innovation prize

Amatica's touchscreen kiosks were in demand again at this year's Merseyside Innovation Awards, where the audience was unanimous in choosing Kleen and Green Motoring Solutions to be crowned the winners of the 2010 awards. Luckily, the judging panel agreed!

The St Helens based manufacturing company has developed a device capable of reducing fuel costs by up to 40% and cutting carbon emissions by half.

Beating off fellow finalists Builder Scrap and Sign Lights, Kleen and Green’s prize includes £10,000 in cash and advice worth £4,000 from some of the region's leading business advisors.

George Heeley, Kleen and Green's inventor, said:

"I have been working on the device full time for the last nine years. As I am an engineer, the prospect of coming along to the awards and presenting my product took me a way outside my comfort zone. I really didn't expect to win, so I'm over the moon.

"The awards will allow us promote our company on a larger scale so that we can encourage businesses to drive towards a low carbon economy in the region."

Kleen and Green’s winning product is already being trialled by DHL, United Utilities and St Helen's council. The device saves up to 30% of fuel in diesel engines and 40% in petrol engines, which ultimately reduces the amount of carbon released in to the atmosphere.

The runners-up each receive £1,000 in cash, while Speke-based Rotters Community Composting won a special award sponsored by the 2010 Year of Health and Wellbeing.
