Server virtualisation delivers greater flexibility and resilience

Amatica has begun to roll out of its server virtualisation project across its managed hosting infrastructure having recently completed an extensive R&D project. One of the first clients to benefit from this upgrade is Birmingham Midshires, the specialist mortgage lender, now part of the Lloyds Banking Group.

For Amatica, server virtualisation offers many advantages, not least improved resilience, business continuity and disaster recovery, as well as faster testing and deployment.

Installing virtualisation software on a server allows multiple virtual servers to reside on the same machine. In effect, each of these virtual servers is completely separate and distinct from the others, running its own operating system and applications. Services, even mission critical applications, that previously were run on one physical server can be split across several virtual machines, without compromising the security or integrity of any of the services. Thus if one service or application fails or has to be taken down for maintenance, it does not affect any of the other services that continue to run on their own virtual machine as normal.

For fast growing companies who see their online services expanding quickly, or those who require highly resilient hosting, virtualisation offers a highly flexible and efficient, yet secure way to increase server capacity in a short timescale. Setup, configuration and deployment can be undertaken in a matter of hours, rather than days or even weeks.

For Amatica, server virtualisation looks set to improve the efficiency and reliability of its managed hosting services. The first phase, to split two hosting servers supporting mission critical services onto separate virtual machines, has proved successful and now enables maintenance to be carried out on one service while the other remains unaffected. For many Amatica clients, maintaining high levels of availability is essential, as any interruption to online services can result in significant loss of revenue.

"Virtualisation of Amatica's managed hosting infrastructure is one aspect of Amatica's commitment to service improvement and its customers" says David Roberts, strategy director at Amatica. "the improvements in resilience and support are just too great to ignore."

HARBOUR, Amatica's Suitability Assessment, Reporting and Management solution

We threw a great many challenges their way and their response was fantastic. One of my easiest decisions was to commission Amatica to create the Sagis LLP website
