UK Trade & Invest and the British Embassy in Luxembourg coordinated an exploratory visit to Luxembourg in September. David Roberts, Amatica's director of strategy and marketing met with representatives of Luxembourg's fund administration service providers.

Following the development of a sales and trail commission management system for Guernsey domiciled fund management company Aras, Amatica wished to explore possibilities of finding further customers for the system. Luxembourg is an important and vibrant centre for financial services within Europe.

As the largest centre for fund administration and transfer agency operations outside of the US, Luxembourg is host to major players such as Bank of JP Morgan, Bank of New York Mellon and RBC Dexia. In view of the size and concentration of these specialist services for fund managers, Luxembourg is a prime market to be explored.

"UK Trade & Invest and the British Embassy did a sterling job. I met with seven organisations in one and a half days which was very intense." said Amatica's David Roberts. "The visit has enabled me to more fully understand the fund administration and transfer agency functions as well as understanding some of the challenges in supporting fund distribution across Europe and Asia Pacific countries.

"There is further work to be done following the Luxembourg visit, particularly in identifying those 'boutique' providers of fund admin. and transfer agency services." said David Roberts. "It's been an important step in expanding our market understanding".

Amatica has plans to return to Luxembourg to continue its discussions with some of those whom it met as well as to research and start dialogues with 'boutique' fund administrators.
