Dave MacLeod is responsible for project managing some of our key client projects. Here he talks about a typical day at Amatica.

"My dreams are rudely interrupted at 7:20am. My natural inclination is to hit the snooze button, but I know it infuriates Lorna, my wife, so I generally try not to.

After a short drive to work I’m usually at my desk before 8:30 where I always start by reviewing my goals for the day – making sure that I’ve got clear in my mind what I want to achieve before the day finishes.

The working day of a project manager can vary widely depending on the stage we’re at; what sort of project it is and how well it is all going. There’s no rocket science to it. Successful project management is all about doing the fundamentals and doing them well.

I end each day by having a check on how successful I was in achieving today’s goals and then jotting down what I need to achieve tomorrow. A quiet drive with Radio 4 gives me time to draw breath before the chaos that lurks behind my front door. Home life can be fairly hectic, with two children, Calum, 17 and Lindsay, 13, and a horde of dogs and cats.

By nature I’m a bit of a night owl, and would happily be nocturnal, so I try to force myself to get to bed before mid-night. It doesn’t always work though and I frequently find myself at 2:00am, already dreading tomorrow’s alarm!"
