Pilkington Glass sees future clearly with Amatica
Amatica will continue to provide updates and support for Pilkington Glass’s KnowledgeBase following the acquisition of Pilkington by Nippon Sheet Glass Co Ltd in June 2006.
The KnowledgeBase, developed by Amatica, has been used to collate and distribute Pilkington’s corporate knowledge and processes globally since 1997. Today, the KnowledgeBase is accessed via Pilkington’s Intranet by staff in 25 countries across 5 continents.
Around 300 topics of information are covered, along with interactive and animated diagrams, illustrations and simulations, MPEG video, 3 dimensional and 360 degree environment models. It provides over 3000 screens of information, including over 4000 photos, diagrams and illustrations.
The KnowledgeBase ensures that staff at any of Pilkington’s sites have access to high quality information. It also ensures consistency in manufacturing processes across the world.
Ben Lyon, Pilkington’s manager of manufacturing excellence, said, “Amatica have provided the technology and publishing skills to bring it all successfully together. Their contribution to the KnowledgeBase project since 1997 has been significant. Their ongoing involvement has contributed to the project’s outstanding success”.
