Kiosks provide online access to council services

Amatica has installed 18 touchscreen kiosks across Derbyshire and Staffordshire, for a consortium of four local authorities, enabling local citizens to access the councils’ websites and e-government services.

The citizens of the councils are spread over a wide rural area, which means that finding and accessing information and advice from their local council can be difficult, particularly for residents living far from their local council offices. The kiosks have been installed in highly visible and accessible public locations, including libraries, leisure centres, a youth hostel, and a convenience store.

Amatica designed a customised, branded interface for each of the four councils in the consortium. The interface is easy to use via a touchscreen keyboard, enabling users to compose emails or complete online forms if necessary. Each kiosk is also equipped with a printer and card reader.

In addition, a touchscreen interface to Anite’s Pericles back office system was designed for Staffordshire Moorlands District Council. This provides access to the council's revenue and benefits system, enabling the public to track progress of their claims and payments and make service requests to the council.

Partly due to the new kiosks, Staffordshire Moorlands has been awarded a Charter Mark for the services it provides to local residents. The award is the national standard for customer service excellence in the public sector, and it recognises the council’s efforts in improving services for local people and developing opportunities and quality of life for local communities.
