Genetic testing solution wins innovation award
Runcorn based Genial Genetic Solutions was declared the winner of the 2006 Merseyside Innovation Awards at the Grand Final on 13th July.
Genial beat off stiff competition from the other two finalists, Delphis and Hoverwing, to claim the £10,000 prize and up to £4000 worth of business consultancy support.
The winning innovation is a device that will revolutionise how genetic tests are carried out in clinics and hospitals across the world. Their machine can make the process of testing quicker, cheaper and more importantly much more accurate, cutting the high failure rate involved in generating genetic cultures.
Managing Director Lawrence Crees said: “The system we have developed is probably three to four years ahead of its time and will change the face of genetic testing”.
The Multiprep Cellsprint Cytogenic Suspension Culture Harvester, which costs £100,000 was launched to the trade worldwide last month and orders are already coming in.
Brian McCann Chair of the sponsor group said ” it was an extremely tough competition and all the finalists are winners , however, Genial Genetics product will not only save lives but has strong commercial potential and shows an outstanding degree of innovation.”
The event was attended by over 125 business leaders, who took part in a live voting process for the product they felt deserved most to win the award. Fortunately, as in previous years, they agreed with the judging panel’s decision.
