Merseyside Innovation Awards launches today

The search is on for Merseyside's greatest innovators from today ( Wed 1st December 2004 ) as the 2005 Merseyside Innovation Awards are launched.

As a sponsor, Amatica designs, manages and hosts the awards' website - www.merseysideinnovationawards.co.uk

The awards are designed to recognise the achievements of Merseyside entrepreneurs whose inventions, designs or projects show cutting edge innovation. Individuals and businesses can enter and compete to win the £10,000 cash prize and business consultancy.

Along with Amatica, the judging panel comprises Merseyside Special Investment Fund, Hurst and Co, law firm DWF, Liverpool Chamber of Commerce and Industry, BBC Radio Merseyside, the University of Liverpool, Nat West, ICDC, Jab Design, ICDC, RTC North, and Liverpool Ventures.

Chair of the judging panel, Brian McCann, Managing Partner of Hurst and Co said: "Over the last few years the number of applications has soared. Merseyside is a breeding ground for many world-class innovations and the next few months will be an exciting time as we examine all the entries and select the short-list. I would urge anyone with a great idea or product to fill in an application form and see what happens."

Each month from now until May a winner will be selected to join the shortlist before the grand final in July where three finalists showcase their products before an audience of entrepreneurs and other leading figures in the business community.

Already several applications have been submitted early demonstrating some ground-breaking ideas including an electronic pregnancy testing kit, a unique 'anti-spiking' cap to prevent unwanted substances being inserted into drinks bottles and a special type of high tech sling and sliding sheets designed to help move or lift disabled, sick or elderly patients.
