Bolton Information Network
The Requirement
The Bolton Information Network (BIN) is a borough-wide partnership consisting of local government, health, voluntary, private and public sector organisations, with an objective to deliver information and support to Bolton's diverse community.
The partnership required a number of kiosks, running a combination of multimedia and internet software. Providing access to Bolton's ethnic minorities required the kiosks to be usable by Gujarati and Urdu communities.
The Solution
Amatica has provided 5 kiosks and interface development expertise to Bolton Information Network (BIN), a borough-wide partnership consisting of local government, health, voluntary, private and public sector organisations.
The kiosks are located in centres providing information on council, health, adult training and education and support to Bolton's communities. The kiosks support ethic minority languages such as Gujarati and Urdu.
The kiosk software, also developed by Amatica, comprises community and service information for the Bolton area. It features topics such as council services, local community groups and facilities and local adult training and education opportunities.
The Outcome
The BIN Kiosk project has been a success delivering a number of benefits to citizens, the local community as well as Bolton's partner organisations:
- Kiosks are accessible to all Bolton citizens including ethnic minorities
- Touchscreen kiosks are easy-to-use for the elderly and non-computer literate
- Kiosks are ideal for those without Internet access
- Community information can be more easily updated than printed leaflets
- Bolton council staff have been positive in supporting the kiosk project
